I’m a Minnesotan (U.S.A.) of German and Norwegian descent. I was born and raised in Minnesota, and I still live here. I do, however, love to travel outside the US for all the reasons that travel is good. When I come back from a long trip, I appreciate everything I have so much more (e.g., hot running water on demand, a road system that’s organized and generally horn-less, clean air, clean clothes that smell like Bounce).
A Few Random Things About Me:
- I love rice hotdish (Minnesotan), aash reshteh (Persian), and palak paneer with garlic naan (South Asian).
- I played volleyball and softball in high school. I was the top free-throw shooter in basketball until I quit because I didn’t like the sport.
- I love swimming for exercise, but hate the effects of the chlorine.
- I love Spain. I studied in Valencia for one semester in undergraduate school and have vacationed there too.
- I love reading non-fiction and hearing the world news from other countries’ perspectives. When I first learned about “propaganda” in a high school class, I remember thinking to myself, “I’m so glad I live in the US where we don’t have propaganda. Imagine all those people in other countries being told lies in the news!” LOL!
- I have a M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Minnesota and nearly a M.S. in Software Engineering from the University of St. Thomas
I am married and have one 4-year old boy. My husband was raised in another country, so I’m doing my best to raise my boy with bi-cultural awareness. I was raised Lutheran myself and am now a Muslim (because I think Islam is the truth—not because I married a Muslim). My boy has Christian family and Muslim family, so I’m working on raising him with bi-religious awareness too.
